If you have never been to Portland, and have only watched Portlandia, this neighborhood might be how you imagine our city. Sweet residential streets with vibrant houses? Check. Colorful, intricate designs painted by neighborhood children in the intersections? Check. So many bars and/or food carts serving a plethora of vegetarian or gluten free options? Check. An environmental middle school complete with a food garden? Check. Hipsters on bikes? Check. Huge murals? Check. Extremely easy to get everywhere by foot, bike, or bus? Check.

"Getting out in nature is relatively easy even within Portland city limits, with dozens of parks and greenway ped/bike paths... but these days it's probably fair to be aware that our houseless crisis is at a level we've never seen before, and a lot of homeless camps are nuzzled in these spaces. For safety, and respect, it may be a good idea to avoid being in these areas too early or too late, and probably never go alone."
