The survey asked people all kinds of questions about commute times, favorite coffee shops and restaurants, and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">much<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> more, including what they feel the best and worst thing is about their particular neighborhood.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some Portland neighborhoods received <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">several<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> responses, while some neighborhoods received one or zero responses (and for the neighborhoods that received zero responses, the neighborhood will not be featured below).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>I wanted to share the real, nitty gritty details of what people reported as the worst and best thing about their Portland neighborhoods,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and you\u2019ll find a long list of responses below organized by neighborhood in alphabetical order. <\/span><b>As you read through everyone\u2019s faves\/least faves, keep in mind that any one perspective does not 100% represent a neighborhood\u2014it\u2019s just one person\u2019s point of view.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><b>Arbor Lodge<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><b>The Best Things About Arbor Lodge:\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe convenience to grocery stores, gas stations, shops, restaurants.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cClose to I-5 and grocery stores.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI love how close I am to everything. I also love the small neighborhood businesses.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>The Worst Things About Buckman:\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThere isn&#8217;t a good gym close by.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cNothing.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cTransient population.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cTraffic, parking, lack of available rentals.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI think this is an issue for many neighborhoods, but trash\/litter.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><b>Centennial\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><b>The Best Things About Centennial:\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cOriginal owners and first time owners mingling, comfy, small-ranch homes with big lots.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe space in my yard; proximity to Powell Butte Nature Park and other nature preserves.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cOur neighbors.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>The Worst Things About Centennial:\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cCommute westward&#8230; can be slow and side streets are your best friend at times! Big desire and potential for more businesses in the neighborhood so folks don\u2019t need or want to travel in. The Portland Gresham lines merge in this area and folks who once lived closer in but wanted some yard space they could afford would love more options! Hopefully the additional shelters will help folks have safe places and less desperate times.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><b>Hazelwood<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><b>The Best Things About Hazelwood:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cGreat Midcentury homes.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>The Worst Things About Hazelwood:\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cCrime.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><b>Hillsdale<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><b>The Best Things About Hillsdale:\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cGreat local restaurants, many are dog friendly. It is quick for me to get to Beaverton, downtown, and the east side and I have Hillsdale and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/theportlandneighborhoodguide.com\/neighborhoods\/multnomah\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Multnomah Village<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to enjoy because they are so close. Feeling of community and acceptance. I love Gabriel Park as well.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>The Worst Things About Hillsdale:\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cCar break ins. There\u2019s tons of amazing food and activities close by and it\u2019s easy to get to anywhere else in the city by the close highway on ramp. There\u2019s tons of amazing food and activities close by and it\u2019s easy to get to anywhere else in the city by the close highway on ramp. That it has its own identity within Portland. And how wonderful our neighbors are.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe vibe.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>The Worst Things About Kenton:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cDrivers on Lombard and interstate who are trying to get around the freeway traffic.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cLots of cars in the streets from lack of driveways.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThieves.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cPetty crime. We are close enough to 99 that everything is easy to get to but it\u2019s not quite as expensive as our old place in inner Southeast Portland.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>The Worst Things About Milwaukie:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cDistance to places like the airport.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe management here is super uptight. A lot of older folks that mostly live here and they can be quite closed minded, if not racist\/homophobic\/misogynistic.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><b>Montavilla<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><b>The Best Things About Montavilla:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAffordable.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>The Worst Things About Montavilla:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cLots of debris, including needles.
