Piedmont, or “foot of the mountain,” is right up against the Columbia River, just west of Arbor Lodge. Which mountain, you ask? The pride of Northern Oregon, Mt. Hood. The original developers of the neighborhood were committed to a commercial-free neighborhood, so Piedmont is still mostly residential, and made up of little blocks of modest houses. It isn’t bustling with hip bars or fancy restaurants (but you can find all those closeby in surrounding neighborhoods). Smack dab in the middle, though, is the Peninsula Rose Garden. Imagine multiple square blocks of roses, walkways and arches and even a fountain. The park even has an outdoor pool next door. You won’t be able to tear yourself away.
